Class Update - April 2025

We close out on our Spring Term having made great progress.

I will provide my thoughts on progress across both classes in our next the tai chi room Newsletter, Tulips 2025 edition.

This update explains how our classes are developing -

Current Beginners

Our focus is currently on Part II; we have worked hard on The Form up to the Kicks sequence.

In the Summer Term, we will use the Finstock village hall sessions as an opportunity to deliver learning in different formats. That starts with our first class back, 7 April 2025.

Due to all the bank holidays and school holidays and separate Easter dates, our second session is not until 28 April. We will use this time wisely, be prepared for some suggestions for home practice - and a homework to inspire you!

We have talked about this class running to a timetable which doesn’t push. I have shared a poll regarding our Autumn Term plans for a 45-minute session which will -

  1. Cover Part I tuition

  2. Provide some confidence-building tuition and practice in the sections where students feel that’s most needed

And we loosely hold the possibility of graduating to the Intermediates class in January 2026.

Rather neatly, we will be blending Intermediates and Beginners together for our workshop session on 14 July - all invited to attend for the full duration of the evening!

Intermediates class

I fondly point out a couple of mutinies in the Spring Term!

I love that I have challenged us!

It’s a pleasure to witness every student progressing and deepening their self awareness, and I am going to include self acceptance.

We are moving on from the ‘race to the finish;’ and are getting so much more out of our practice.

From here we will mix up our mindfulness practice, and go deeper on listening to our bodies -

  1. Connecting the breath and our movements

  2. Building balance, co-ordination and flow

  3. ‘Exploring the four corners’ of energy

Like the Beginners, we will share a homework task on 7 April for discussion on 28 April.

And will work on a topics-based agenda for our joint Beginners/ Intermediates class, which I would like to have your input on please.

Do sign up to receive the t’ai chi room Newsletter if you haven’t already done so. This is issued roughly half-termly. And will provide some good tips for your improved practice, as well as inspiring pieces on the history and symbolism of T’ai Chi. Little deep dives as I like to call them! Sign up via the button in the footer of this page.

I am posting daily content on my Facebook page.

Our next the t’ai chi room Book Club will take place on the first Wednesday after half term in October. I am keen to give myself a fighting chance of finishing In McGilchrist’s new title (two volumes, 1400 pages). Worry not!!! Our next book club title will be something shorter - on the history of Tai Chi. Further announcement soon…
