I’m taking a Stance!

I’m taking a stance for quietening our mind chatter, and listening for the whisper of our wisdom.

 

For some months now I have practised our ‘Holding the Tree Trunk’ T’ai Chi warmup position as a posture to inform me what’s the best mindset I can choose for the activities/ tasks/ challenges which lie ahead for me that day.

 

I am a long-term fan of The Miracle Morning (Hal Elrod). Hal’s system of six simple steps every morning 7 days a week has kept my personal development and follow-through on track beautifully. He advocates six short actions which set us up well for the day – the SAVERS. These are Silence, Affirmations, Vsualisations, Exercise, Reading and Scribing.

 

I have added an additional step – Stance. I take up our ‘Holding the Tree Trunk’ T’ai Chi warmup position. I do this only after I have run through my SAVERS. That way, my mind is quietened, and I have clarity around what’s important for me to achieve that day.

 

Then, without the thinking mind I take up the Stance.

 

And I listen.

 

My body takes around 30 seconds to settle.

 

And I listen to my body.

 

Sometimes I feel movement, and sometimes I feel strongly rooted. In places I might feel resistance, and sometimes I notice that the resistance has started in my head as racing thoughts, which lets me know that I’m not fully present and/or that I’m experiencing impatience. Perhaps my weight is forwards as I am anticipating the excitement of a new project.

 

You get the picture – taking a Stance as part of my morning routine is a shortcut to my intuition around how I need to show up for myself, my clients, and my loved ones that day.

 

I choose mindset from this place and note this as an entry in my SAVERS journal. That’s it – it takes around 60 seconds.

 

Simple structures work well. This is such an easy action to add to your morning routine, maybe attaching it to something you already do each morning. E.g. waiting for the kettle to boil, or straight after you clean your teeth before leaving the bathroom.

 

I invite you to try it – it might just unlock a gentler way of being as you start the day with intention, and without the push…
